no start issue - 95 zx6r
hey guys, new to the forum. I just bought a 95 zx6r saturday from a guy that was using it to commute to work. so it was running fine when i took it home. I wanted to go over the bike to do some basic maintanance (oh and this is my first motorcycle)
Ok so i pulled the seats and i see some T fitting in the fuel line, pull the tank and open up the airbox and see some holes dremmeled throught he bottom and from the filter area to the carb area. (obviously had nitrous jets in there before and now had the holes taped over)
the fuel selector switch was leaking so i removed it and rebuilt it with o-rings and some silicon grease on the orings.
the kickstand kill switch is bypassed.
there also is a wire running from the ignition fuse to the connector for the fuel pump rather than the stock connector.i assume this is some sort of mod to make it only pump while running and shut off if the engine stops?
to get to the point. after doing all this and an oil change i put it back together and started it up just fine. went to load it onto my truck to get it inspected and it stalled out. i started it back up and it did it again. now it won't start. ocassionally it will fire up for a second if the choke is full on.
is it possible that from having the fuel tank disconnected and the hoses and selector switch drained could have let the carb bowls dry out and prevent gas from getting to the engine?
thanks for any ideas.

well i was able to get it running. I undid the fuel pump wiring change that the previous owner did, and was able to choke it to run long enough to purge the system. running just fine now.
yeah, its easier to ride than push up a ramp unless its on a small hill and can get a good roll going.
but mostly i was trying get it running to ride
- the ramp thing was just to get it to the inspection station so i could get tags and be road legal.
oh and to keep you from thinking i am nuts, the ramp is 3' wide so i can keep my legs down while riding it up the ramp. i would never try to ride up a 2x8 or something lol

ok as long as the ramp is secure. when the front wheel gets on the truck the back wheel usally spits the ramp out from under it[&:]. i have had freinds do it and seen on youtube also very comon mistake. l8r
interesting. never though of that happening since the bike is usually coasting by that time. but good to know, throw a stap on the ramp to the hitch for good measure.
perfect!! i strap my ramp to my truck when i haul it's also 3ft wide. my buddie tried walking next to it while he powered it up the ramp he was using a peice of 2x10as soon as the front tiregot on the truck the back wheel shot the ramp out and his bike landed on the bottom faring then fell to the ground braking his top faring.
i learned a lesson from him that day.[&o]l8r
