Measure vertically at a point at the rear of the bike (Turn Signal or rear peg) with the weight off andthe bike straight up. Get someone to help you hold the bike up & level. Then install the links and measure again and lower the front as needed. Just remember not to lower the front too much or you will hit the front fender and fairing whenthe suspension compresses. Also, you will lose some ground clearance when cornering.

I'm just curious. Does lowering the front end help with performace handeling of the bike?

He ain't foolin'. I had to lower mine two inches for my short a$$. I need to be careful at lower cowl destroyers aka speed bumps, or a steep ingress into parking lots, and driveways. I also had to get my kick stand cut, they didn't cut enough now I need to get it cut again. The bike should lean 30-35 degrees on the stand.

It will quicken the steering and if lowered too much will cause high speed instability.

You have to loosen the top spanner locknut and start tightening the lower spanner nut to preload the shock spring. Don't forget to tighten the locknut when you're done. You may have to preload you forks also. Look in your owners manual; it should show you how to do it.
