Default Gear Recommendations

Got the bike working, just need to put a headlight and get tires and I'm ready to go. I need ride gear though. The jacket I have now is not something I want to be riding with once I get going. Any recommendations for jackets? Preferably around 120 or less as I can't afford much more now. Thanks

Things to consider:

I know you are asking about a jacket but you need to consider protecting your entire body which includes a one or two piece suit, boots, gloves and a back protector not to mention a helmet in the correct size.

If you think it's too expensive to buy all of those items at once, consider your insurance deductable and or medical bills that you can't afford in the event of an accident. Most riders don't like leathers but I have yet to meet a person who would like a skin graft. You can take that chance and ride without the protection you deserve like many others out there thinking it won't happen to me, but if you ride long enough eventually you will fall or even worse, collide with a solid object. Why not take an opportunity to prevent the worst case scenario?

Leathers are uncomfortable to a degree, I have a two piece Dainese set of perforated leathers with allot of armor built in. They are expensive but I know that there are several companies out there who sell similar sets for around $400. for an off the rack set they fit and feel very good.
You don't have to buy the most expensive gear made, just make sure you buy something that fits properly and (hopefully) provides you with some real protection. (matching the bike would be cool too )

I have seen several sets of leathers on eBay, WERA and other local racing forums where racers are either getting out or upgrading their gear and sell at very realistic prices.

Don't screw around with protection, you only have one body!

Did I make my point?

BTW, I am a retired professional roadracer who is now a critical care registered nurse. I've seen a few things.

Very nicely put Bonsai.

Musicphreak, bro buy gear as soon as you can even if it is little by little. Here is a shoot of my daily gear, I have more for the track and canyon ridding. If you look closely you will notice that I am very glad to have it. I have survived being hit twice by cagers.

Here is a link to the WERA site that bonsai mentioned. Tons of stuff there and it is being sold by riders not some idiot off the ebay store who 9 times out of ten has never been on a bike and doesn’t even ever see what he is selling. http://forums.13x.com/index.php?s=8f...61fad95826de88

Good luck, ride safe and gear up.

BTW the knee shoot and the helmet was from a cager who cut over and hit my front wheel I was going about 50 mph.[:@]
