Fork seal Replacement (STUCK)
Ok I have a 98 zx6r and I am replacing the fork seals in both forks. I have removed both from the triple tree, and on one I have completely disassembled except for the damping rod and the other is still completely together. I can not for the life of me get out the screw/bolt on the bottom side of the fork, inside where the axle goes through. i believe that holds the damping rod in place. I've looked online for a damping rod holder. I can't find one that fits my bike any ideas?

this is what it says in the haynes manual..."Remove the previously slackened damper cartridge bolt and it's sealing washer from the bottom of the slider. Discard the sealing washer as a new one must be used on reassembly. If the damper cartrdige bolt was not slackened before dismantling the fork, it may be necessary to re-install the spring, spring seat, spacer and top bolt to prevent the damper rod from turning. Alternatively, an air gun, if available should do the trick. Kawasaki produces a service tool for the purpose 57001-1297 for F models and 57001-1406 for G, H, J and A models." i'm sure that your model is the G model. after reading this, i might even attempt my own. i thought you HAD to use the kawi tool. seems like if it's loosened first you should be good to go. it also says in the beginning to do one fork at a time so you don't mix the parts up. hope this helped.
