yes, your chain alignment marks must be even on both sides, also check the torque on the rear axle, somethings not right. do you have any chain/sprocket alignment tools ?

A quick visual sighting down the chain will get you in the ball park. Making sure that the chain is centered on the teeth of the sprocket as you rotate the rear wheel.
As speed mentioned, a riveted link may be too tight lets say.

damn, you guys know your stuff! i straightened out the wheel according to the cast markings and went out to see what she was like...no more clunk. as for the torque..i set the wrench for 80 foot pounds and went a little over i think trying to get the castle nut to line up with the hole in the axle. the dealer told me that it's usually around 75 to 80. my chain is the stocker...for now and i think it's the riveted type. and thanks for the heads up on the alignment tool evil.
