OK, start it off i bought a 1988 zx6r for my girlfriend to teach her how to ride on, figuring if she dropped it 20 times who cares it cost me $1300.00, When i bought the bike 3 weeks ago it ran fine, like a newer bike with average miles, nothing su****ious at all. This bike is in really good shape with around 20k, 100% bone stock.

My girld friend has dropped the bike a few times, but all were barely rolling drops or dead stop falling over. Here is the fun part:

I can start the bike after sitting with no problem ever, and i can warm it up get on it, and rip and it runs like a raped ape. My girlfriend, who is still stalling trying to get a feeling for the clutch, from stopped to a steady roll in first, cannot restart after she stalls it.

Like i said the bike runs fine with me, but since she stalls it, at most it will turn over once more, after that you can hold the start button all day, full choke, no choke, full throttle, no throttle, in nuetral, out nuetral with clutch in, and clutch in in nuetral.

Now, if you park it, let it sit for a half hour, you can walk up on the bike, barely touch the start button and it fires right up, and will once again rip if i get on it as im a seasoned rider and dont stall the bike.

I cant figure out what im calling a ghost issue for the life of me, someone please point me in any direction you think may help!!!

 

My knee-jerk reaction, just based on your described symptoms, would be a vacuum issue and/or a temperature issue. If the bike has been dropped, it's possible some fluids have gotten into places they shouldn't. I suspect there's probably also a fuel cut-off "tilt switch" issue.
Now, if the bike is running fine, she chatters/bucks the clutch, (the bike stays upright) and the bike stalls, and THEN does not restart, I would suspect a fuel issue. Why? Look at the amount of time it takes before you can re-start it. Usually, fuel will dissipate in about a half hour---about like being "flooded." My guess, is that you could "bump start" it, and it would run rich for about 2-3 seconds. Just my hunch.

Thanks for the reply Jeff, first of all, she has more gear then anyone i have ever seen, coat, gloves, boots, helmet, all new, she looks like a professional racer haha. I also ride, a completely custom zx11, and she only rides with me to keep an eye on her, as I have been riding motorsports since i was a little kid.

In any event thats the only thing i could think of, maybe the bike is flooding when she sits there at idle for extended periods of time then tries to take off so slowly just using the clutch no throttle that it dies, and the carbs are filled with gas and cant turn over. Which im guessing the only fix for that is for her to rev it up everytime before she tries to let the clutch out in order to clear out the carbs/jets.

 

.......or, tell her if she kills the engine, she has to PUSH you sitting on her bike to bump start it. Great teaching tool.....

So you still have the evaporative emission control system in place then. I would check into that as an option. I am sure that you have already checked the air filter.

 

I will check her repair manual to take a look into that as well, and yes Jeff that would be a fantastic teaching tool lol

 

(Be careful having her wind-up the throttle as she lets-out the clutch....she'll learn how to do wheelies before she learns how to ride.....)
