Default 04 zx-6r display broke

So I bought my ZX-6R last weekend aware that the spedometer had some problems. It reads goofy numbers (i.e. 125 mph in first gear when doing 7 mph) I figured it might be a loose contact. The rpm gauge still works just right, the nuetral light, the turn signals, high beam all those lights still work on the gauge cluster. I was looking to take it off last night and do some investigating to see if I could find a loose contact but before I got around to it I noticed then speed doesn't register at all now. It just always reads zero.

Does the gauge cluster just snap off? It looks to me like I have to remove the front plastic to even get to the bolts holding the cluster down.

Anyone have any ideas of what it coudl be?

let me know.

The speedo reads off the counter-shaft (drive) sproket, so check there first. There's a sensor in the sproket cover.
One plug connects the gauge cluster to the wire harness.

yeah if the speedo is still working (reading something, be it zero) then it is the speedo sensor +1

BUT!

(I was aware of this issue when purchasing)

I had a buddy ride the bike home for me and he noticed the speed would register correctly when your press (put pressure) on the guage cluster leading me to believe it would be a contact in the back....

How might I go about troubleshooting this?

I love doing things hands on but I'll admit this ZX-6R is not as familiar to me as my '94 Nissan Sentra....

Help me out boyz!

pull the windscreen so you can access the plug, take off the plug and then slide the rubber boot down the wires. look to make sure all the wires are pushed in the plastic plug, and past taht i would say the gauge might have water damgae, i saw that sort of thing all the time when i repaired cell phones, water does something different to every thing no telling what it would make the gauge read

Send it to me, I can take a look at it & fix itor you can send it to a speedo repair shop for them to fix it. It probably has a loose connection or cracked solder joint.

Not too much. Maybe $60 Max and you cover the shipping. If I can't fix it, I won't charge you anything.
