03 Ninja ZX6R oil help
ok, i brought my bike to a shop to get worked on last week... tune up, oil change...etc. anyway i get a call from the mechanic today saying that he changed the oil, filter and put new plugs in, then he started the bike and the oil light was on and he said that, "it didnt sound happy". but the bike was fine when i brought it to him, and had no problems running. I also never seen the oil light on either. He said the bike was never started till then and hasnt ran since i brought it in. he said he would let me know what he found out. So do any of you know what that could be? anyone ever have some problems like this. thanks
Did you get a repair order? Check your mileage to see if he took it for a joy ride. Was it running when youtook it to the shop; did you ride it? Ask the mechanic if he filled the oil filter before installing it. Maybe he pinched the oil pressure sender wire when he installed the fairing. Just tell them that there wasn't a problem before you brought it in and they are responsible. I have heard of shops taking customers bikes and racing and/ or stunting them and returning it back to them after changing the oil or whatever repair was done.
yeah i definately remembered to check the miles before i dropped it off cause i have never been there before, and the place looks like ****, but i was told this guy was one of the best. yeah but it turns out the oil i guess wasnt flowing properly and it just needed a few minutes to circulate. thanks
After an Oil change you've a good 5 seconds or so until the oil gets pumped throughout the system. I replaced my engine cover and heard a "not happy sound" or basically a clunk durring the 5 second period. Certainally wasn't happy about that but that's to be expected I guess... I hope =\ ... Hopefully no damage done. As for yours did he let it run for an extended period of time to see if the light shut off? (extended in this situation would be no longer than I'd say 10-20 seconds I'd be terrified to run my bike for longer than 10seconds with that light on.) If he just say the light and heard a clunk and then turned it right off within that normal 5second window there may be nothing to worry about however if it was on more than that sounds like speeds on the right track.
Oil filter was empty. Always fill your oil filter when changing the oil/ filter before installation. That few seconds causes a lot of wear because the oil isn't there to cushion the crank from the main & rod bearings so try to minimize the time there is lack of oil pressure by filling the filter as much as possible. I start filling it before I start my oil change and top it off in between. Be quick when installing it.
