Default 00' zx6r wont rev past 7k

im sure this is stupid of me but i just did a valve adjustment because i had a bad ticking. The exaust valves were tight so i got all new shims put them in and the tick was a little less loud but still present. How do i fix this i am thinking its in the block now

2nd i just finished the adjustment take it on the road and now it wont rev past 7k rpm's and its a pig. Like i could walk faster. I think its off by a tooth on the chain but when it hits 7 its just done. i figure it would buck or something instead of just die at 7 i would appreciate any suggestions and help gas is killing me in my car so i want this fixed quick. plus i have biketober fest comming i dont want to miss it

My guess would be that the ECU is cutting it off at 7k because it's detecting a problem with engine performance (e.g. bad timing). It does this because if something like your vavle timing is off, reving past 7k will most likely break the valve train. Assuming this is all correct, ignore the rev limit at 7k for the moment. First find out why the engine isn't running correctly before 7krpm. According to your post, you implied that minus the vavle tapping, the engine was running fine before you took it apart. This means that something you did has caused it to no longer run correctly. So, regardless of the issue, you're going to have to take the engine apart again to fix it, so I'd start there. I'd check the obvious, like valve spring and such. See if that get's you anywhere. Once you find the root problem, the 7krpm limit should correct itself. Or at least that's my take on your situation. Anyone else have any ideas?

What are your valve clearances and did you time the cams correctly when you put it together. If the cams are advanced or retarded, you wil lose power; even if only one of them is wrong. Usually if they are advanced too much, then you lose top end power and if it's too much it will bend the valves. Get a manual and verify everything/ cam timing, clearances.
