Default Overheating Problem

I own a 1986 Ninja 1000R. I was told when I bought it that it "runs a little hot". Well that's an understatement. The bikehas a Vance & Hines exhaust and I was told by the person who sold it to me that it also has a stage II jet kit....I've flushed the entire system thoroughly, checked the waterpump, relay, thermostat & guage. I also wrapped the headers with heat tape (cloth type). The only way I could get this bike to run somewhat cool was by bypassing the stock fan hook-up using a toggle switch. Having the fan on all the time now has the needle on the temp guage running about half way on the guage. By the way I noticed as I was wrapping the pipes, that there is very little room between the headerpipes and both the oil and water radiators. I'm sure this doesn't help my situation. Does anyone have this same proplem here? Or possibly some guidance on this issue? Also, anyone know where I can get JUST the plastic fan? I don't need the whole fan assembly unless you have one for a decent price. Thanks,Robster

How and with what did you flush the system out with? Then again, 170 degree running temp is not bad ( if that is what you are mentioning)

I useda Prestone engine and Radiator Flush.I was riding yesterday (july 2nd) and it died on me. While I waited for my buddy to pick me up, I was looking at the fan blades. They were melted even more then before. My guess is the by passing the stock hook-up only killed the battery. It stillis getting way to hot? Anyone have a metal fan that is 8 1/2" from tip to tip? I can't figure out why this motor is running so hot? If the stage II was installed wrong could that be enough to makeit run so hot?

How do the plugs read? You would know after that and the seat of the pants feel of the bike if the stage 2 kit and the exhaust were not working correctly.

Try here for Aluminum blades. http://www.muzzys.com/fans.html

The bike seems to run like a raped ape. I'm pulling the tank and I'll check the plugs this weekend. I wasn't sure if this problem was a design flaw, cause everything is so tightly packed together. The radiator is only 2 inches from the header pipes (give or take a half). Thanks for the link. I'm all over that. That beats the 225.00 price for the whole assembly

No prob Rob. It is just an option that some riders use. However, I prolly would have checked out our sponsors first prior to ordering.
