I got my 2008 650 just about a year ago now, it's my first bike so I'm still learning a lot. I've enjoyed every second of riding; haven't really been able to ride much but just hit the 3500 mile mark.

Just a few days ago, I started noticing a strange hissing sound when I'm in 3rd gear or up at 3500-4000 RPMs. Only happens when I'm increasing throttle power. It's really hard to describe; it's sort of like the sound you get if you're in too high a gear and the bike is struggling. But it's not so bad where the bike sounds like it's going to stall or shut down. Any advice about this? One thing I will say is that I've been riding it toasty weather lately (85 F +) so maybe that has something to do with it?

I've taken decent care of the bike for what I know. Lube the chain regularly, check the oil, tire pressure and took it for servicing at about 1000 miles. I'm about to take it for it's 4000 mile servicing too.

Any advice would be appreciated. Also, has anyone found a solution for this infamous faring buzz sound that I keep reading about and experiencing once in a while? And finally, the owners manual says that the oil should be changed about every 7k miles; is this sufficient?

Oil change on a low mileage bike should be every year if it doesn't do 7K miles.

Noise could be almost anything - air venting into or out of the tank is a possibility.

Fairing buzz fix entails fitting adhesive backed dense foam strip between the contact surfaces of the fairing sections.
