Should I buy???
Hi all. New to to the forum here. I'd like to thank everybody for all of their posts. You guys have all helped me a lot with my decision to start riding. I have taken the MSF course and started looking around for bikes.
I wanted to see if you guys thought this was a good deal:
2001 500r
8100 miles
clean title
couple small scratches
although it looks like it was stored outside . . .(rust issues?)
he's asking 2000, I will try to offer 1800.
Thanks

RE: Should I buy???
It does not sound like a bad deal. Check it out pretty close, smell the fuel, look inside the tank with a flash light, drain the bowls into a cup and check for debri. You know, do the checks, then think about price.

RE: Should I buy???
sorry if this is a dumb question, but what am i smelling for and looking for?
also i saw a tiny bit of smoke escape the thin part of the exhaust pipe on the right side. Im not sure if it came from there or somewhere else. there is a litle rust on the wheels next to the brake discs.
Oh and thanks for the advice! I really dont want to get bogged down with repair issues since its my first bike

If you are referring to the pipe that runs basically under your feet, that may be a leak on the clutch cover. run your finger under the cover to see if oil is present. If there is, make him knock another $500 off the price. Then go buy a $8 gasket and fix it!

Just remember that gas has a lot of benzene (a carcinogen), but a quick whiff won't hurt!
