Is the running light/taillight suppose to come on automatically like the haeadlight or is there a switch? If so, where is it? Also, how do you turn the backlight on the gauges on? Sorry if the questions seem dumb but this is my first bike and all of this is new to me. Its a 92 500.

 

the taillight and the light for the gauges should come on when you turn the key to "on".

and remember, asking questions is not an admittance of ignorance, it is an attack on it.
