Default Popping with Exhaust? Do I need to seer clear of this bike?

So I'm looking at buying a 2006 Kawasaki Ninja 500R but it has aftermarket exhaust (Muzzy's full pipes) and the bike makes a popping sound whenever I let off the throttle. I think I read somewhere on this forum that the bike might need a jet kit or something like that... and basically I need to know everything about that. Is the problem just with the jet kit... is this something that I can just buy and put on myself or should I have a shop do it. The bike is being sold by a friend of mine and he's selling it so me for $3000? Is this a good deal is this exhaust thing a big problem? Should I avoid the bike or is this a minor thing, I'm supposed to pick up the bike this weekend so I'll need a response soon. Let me know where I can buy stuff I need, is it important to fix, is there anything else I should be looking for? Thanks a lot!

And a small sales pitch: If I buy the bike then I have a 2007 ex 250 ninja with about 1700 miles on it (perfect condition) for sale

Its not the jetting or lack of causing the popping, its there with the stock pipe as well, you just cant hear it. O2 getting into the exhaust. Mine does the same, I kind of like it. BTW, jetting is not necessary with the muzzy if you buddy didnt already do it, just a mixture adjustment and it should be fine. I actually went back to the stock jets because I couldnt tune out the flat spot I was getting from the PO's jet job.

this should get rid of the popping

And the REAL winners are simply replaced by a cloud of smoke, which dissipates to reveal complete disappearance of the bike!

No really, I've seeeeen it! Ok, it might have been a movie... [sm=bustedsign.gif]

(Grats on the price you are getting for the bike. It's very good if the bike is in good shape, and has low miles... etc!)

the popping is okay...the muzzy makes it louder...I have a muzzy on my zx7r and the popping is very noticeable since I installed it.

Getting rid of the kleen air setup will help ie smog stuff. Less O2 placed in the exhaust, will not burn out the packing as fast either. Sounds like the same issue with other rides.

Thanks for the info, I didn't really mind the sound but I wanted the bike to be running as efficient as it can be and figured that the popping was sounds of unburnt fuel. By making the changes that you recommend, what will that do for the life of the bike (why don't they just come this way from the factory?) Will I get about the same mpg and will that put strain on the engine? Thanks!

they dont come like that from the factory because they wouldnt pass federal emissions standards then.
