Pimping out - good aftermarket parts for mods
The vain girl in me is coming out the more I ride my 500R; I have some ideas but want to know what should I avoid if I buy online, mostly Ebay.
First off: A1) The Garmin Zumo clutch mount looks amazing. Hooked it up to the main battery, took a little time and effort but completely works. Does not budge even at 80 MPH.
1) Flush mount turn signals - cheap on Ebay, worth it or look elsewhere and pay a little more? I like the look and am very interested. Those stock signals are weird just hanging out there like wings.
2) The chrome racing mirrors on Ebay - $24.95 or there's a pair not so racing but chrome and nice for $145.
4) Chromeor matching blue chrome brake and clutch levers - $24 or so on Ebay - worth it?Made of aluminum.
5) Gel grips? Colorful, good for smaller hands but safe.
4) Corbin leather seat - Gunfighter and Lady - gorgeous! I'm interested in the carbon fiber leather- Corbin says you get better traction at higher speeds. I rode on a soft leather seat on a Harley once - very comfortable when standing still but scary when doing a highway. I think this one is obviously a good addition - the backrest is as pricey as the seat but would make me more comfortable to ride two up.
4) Tank bra- to avoid stretch marks.Leather or vinyl (does it really matter)?
5) New gas cap or a gas cap cover? I was using a magnetic tank bag and the last time I took it off it smelled like gas. The cap is a little sticky; it works but I'm concerned about the leaking.

nice numbering system... 1 2 4 5 4 4 5 where is 3?
anyway
1 the good thing about the flush mounts... stock signals can punch a nice hole in your fairing if you drop the bike. flushmounts will not. i had a set of lockhart philips ones that were pretty good.
2 if you like the chrome look go for it... im not really down with the blingy look thouhg.
3 again, if you like the look go for it. not my cup of tea though
4 for grips, i prefer renthal street grips. i dont like the real soft ones personally.
5 i want a corbin too. stock seat sucks IMO.
6 another option is a tank pad. usually they are to keep your belt or whatnot from scratching the tank. if you park outside all the time, your paint can fade from the sun, but it wont be faded under the bra (nor the tank pad really...)
7 it smells like gas because the tank vents through the keyhole (unless you have a cali spec bike)

Thanks! I answered your PM and asked for the info you just posted. Thanks for the information.
So it vents - sometimes I've seen a little gas when I'm done riding; never had a problem. Makes sense. My bag stunk, tho, so everyone knew I was out riding!

No need to pimp anymore - sold the old 500 and got the 650R in Candy Plasma Blue! 2007 model, 1000 miles, mint, gorgeous. Shifting was like buttah. Can't wait to put another thousand before the summer is out.
Yeah, those Corbin seats are beautiful but cost a mint! They keep their value so good luck finding one cheaper than new.
