Ninja 500 Dealer Price
Hey guys! Im new here! So Im looking at buying a 2005 Ninja 500. Im checking out the bike a week from yesterday. I've done a little research and I see that the KBB of a 2005 is 3465. And the NADA is based at 3635.
The bike is a 2005 Ninja 500 with 3500 miles. The condition is great but needs further investigation.
My dealer has the bike advertised at 3989. I would love to have "out the door" price at about this ball park. Or atleast under 4000. Any adivce on how much I should try to haggle the dealer down? (3700 was my thoughts) And is my thought process of 4000 dollars with tags title fees and paper work unrealistic?
P.S. Yes this is my first real motorcycle purchase even tho I have had my motorcycle license for 3 years now.

The only way you'll be able to get it for $4k or less is by offering them just that and being prepared to walk out if they try to add anything at all.
Of course they'll make excuses:
~but we have to charge tax
~but you have to pay for the license and registration (which indeed you must)
~but that doesn't include the handling & set up
If they cannot get you out the door for less than 4000, including all those things, don't be dramatic, just be polite, thank them and walk out.
I'm afraid this is not the best time to buy a bike. If you want to save money, you should visit the dealership in November or December when there is snow on the ground, they've just gotten the new models in and they still have plenty of last year's models on-hand. Bonus points if you interrupt the salesman as he's composing his suicide note.
Good luck and let us know how it goes.
Peace!

Still plenty of snow on the ground here. sounds like a pretty nice deal, its about $300 above what a private seller would ask, which is a good buy for a dealer checked bike. But like CC said they will nickel and dime you all the way to the door until you und up getting screwed. If you can manage it offer 4K cash, 41max, and if they cant deal at that price, just leave your number, cause you would get a better deal from a private owner.

I ended up going to another dealer and settled on a brand new 2007 for a crisp 4800(ish) out the door. Thefirst dealer was trying to give me the used bike for 4632 all said and done with a waranty.

How much was the warranty? A new ride for just a few dollars more over a used one seems pretty good.

Saving 300 - 400 dollars for buying used is just a waste as far as I see it. Not only that I am unfamiliar with working on bikes so even if there was an issue I wouldnt know how to deal with it. I will be picking it up hopefully thursday! I cant wait!
