RE: Neat Old-School Magazine Ad
Hi Pang.
Please don't rely solely on my rantings. My complaint with Suzuki is not based on first-hand, personal experience, but simply one hapless guy's complaint on an internet forum like this one. He had a GSXR1000 that was burning oil pretty badly after only 16,000 miles. He'd been performing all the maintenance and when he questioned the dealership about it, they simply told him burning one quart of oil is within Suzuki-USA's spec for that bike. (!)
I've ridden a few Suzukis and they seem like decent bikes, but hearing a dealership respond that way to what I consider a serious problem is not unlike a girl telling me she has herpes on the first date.
Before buying any bike, I read up in a model-specific forum like this one. I really, really lusted after an Italian Moto Guzzi LeMans, but when I joined a Guzzi forum, I learned that these bikes still have lots of problems (like gear-shift levers suddenly getting stuck in the (down) position and the rear wheel locking when the clutch was out.
And more recently I've learned that BMW's F800S (which is coming to America next Spring,) has got a lousy transmission.
And there are plenty of other good sources of information:
ZZR600
CR600F4i
YZF600R
Other models.
The more I learn about other bikes, the more I appreciate the 500R.

You're definately right about the 500. I bought mine with 10k in aug and figured something needed to be done...Nope...it's got over 12.5k now and I've only changed the oil.
