I'm in the looks....
Hey, I bought my bike from O.C. Motorsports, which I think is the same place you're looking at.
I went in their shop thinking that I'd leave with a gs500f. But after a closer look, I couldn't justify paying $300 more for something that looks and performs less than the ninja/ex500. enough about that..
If you go the used route, make sure it's a real bargain, because the new one with 4,899 OTD equates to $4,400 brand new without the tax/title/registration fees.
Maybe your situation is the same as mine. My only option was financing for the bike, new or used (I don't have much cash) and getting full coverage insurance was ok with me because this is my first bike, first year of riding which most likely an accident will happen.
I was looking for a 500cc bike with 15k miles or less and the used bikes that were for sale that fell on those category were listed at $3,300-4,400. One thousand bucks more.. would equate to only about ~$25/mo more for a new one (peace of mind, no surprises). Also, You should go check out the bikes first, because when I was looking at the nin500's, I saw the silver '07 model (didn't know it at the time) and didnt appeal to me. But, different strokes for different blokes.
On that note, I suppose I could have went for the 650R for ~$50 more a month, but the ex500 seemed too much for me at the time that I almost considered the 250 (thank god they didn't seem to have any).
Looking back, I dont have any regrets getting the 500. Very confidence inspiring. Wait.. after a month of ownsership, I do sometimes wish I had bought something that didnt look so tame, maybe something with more hp (see what I mean by confidence?).
Thats okay though, I plan on upgrading to a 600 after I turn 25 (18 months from now).
