Finding a service manual for 04 500R
Anyone know where to get one? All I could find was this:
http://www.cyclemanuals.com/C/Ka/360-3.htm
which says up to 2002.
Im trying to learn how to remove the rear tire (read Chris's in depth article), which seems pretty straightforward, its just the aligining it back which is kind of confusing to me.
Also, about how many miles do you completely take the chain off and clean it?

Unfortunately, I've never seen a service manual that describes how to align the rear wheel, (short of using the axle-alignment guides, which are really worthless when you consider how much play they have in them.)
Here are a few decent descriptions of how to do the "string method":
http://www.yamahafz1oa.com/sportryde...ntmethod.shtml
http://www.klr650.marknet.us/wheelalign.html
Just Google the search terms:
rear wheel alignment, motorcycle, string method (and whatever other search terms you consider relavent) and you'll learn much more about getting the rear wheel aligned than is covered in the Service Manual.
Using kite-string might seem a little 'barnstormy' in a age of fuel-injection, valve clearances measured to within a hundredth of a millimeter, and other precision measurements typical on every bike. But most new innovations (like a lazer-site guided alignment tool) turned out to be inferior & overpriced. String is king, IMO.
Good luck and let us know how it goes.
Peace!

They come up on Ebay all the time. Be sure to check both search terms "EX500 manual" and "Ninja 500R manual".
And be sure to get both the service manual and supplement.
Good luck.

Hey chris,
Im still trying to find a pair of these myself. Im about to just bite the bullet and order them new from the kawasaki website. Can you give me the ISBN number for the manual and supplement so i can try to find them cheaper one last time.
The kawasaki site actually shows three different manuals. THe base manual and two different supplements.
99924-1056-04
Service Manual EN450/500/EX500
59.95

99924-1172-59
Service Manual Supplement* EX500D
35.95

99924-1172-60
Service Manual Supplement* EX500D
35.95

99987-1424
Owner's Manual EX500D
15.95
Do you know which one is right for me?
Thanks,
Sean
EDIT: Actually, it says that -60 isnt available so i guess that makes it easy. But i would still appreciate the ISBN numbers
