2007 Ninja 500R with approximately 4000 miles. I bought it at the end of the summer of 2009.

Problem: the bike cuts out and eventually stalls when I ride it out on the open road. It has only stalled completely out once while riding on the open road. I usually get it stopped before that happens.

Backstory: The bike sat untouched last summer (2010) as I had work that required me to be away. It obviously sat all this winter as well. It ran fine before this time period.

I thought maybe bad gas. I pumped the gas from the tank and put in new gas adding a fuel additive to remove moisture. I did that today. It seemed to be running fine so I took it out on the open road. But again, as soon as I got going (maybe 3rd gear) I started to feel it cutting in and out. I turned around to head back to the house and it stalled a couple of times when I was stopped at various intersections. I should note that it was a pretty rough to get it started after adding the new gas too (first time to start it after this last winter).

I read that it doesn't have a fuel filter as I thought maybe it was clogged. Now I have no idea what could be causing the problem.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

 

The worst thing you can do is allow a bike to sit, it always has issues waking back up. Anytime it has set for a while make sure to clean the carbs, my guess would be gunk in the carb keeping the floats from filling properly, or the fuel from getting in properly, might be fine at idle but changes drastically under a load. Let us know what you find.
