I am looking to buy a bike in the near future but I am a beginner rider. I am a 22 year old female with some strength and standing at 5'8". Does anyone believe a Kawasaki Ninja 500r to be a good choice? I am looking for specific colors....does anyone know how difficult will it be to find the colors I want? I'm fairly good with control over the bike for an inexperienced rider and feel as though this model would be light enough for me.

Any information would be greatly appreciated!

yes, the 500 is a great bigginer bike!!! IMO!!!

as to the color choices, it goes by year.... for example they had blue and black in 05, green and red in 06 and yellow and silver in 07 if i remember correctly......

The 500 isn't just a great beginner bike, it's a great bike period. The only downside I can think of to it is that the clutch is a little grabby; it's more like an on-off switch instead of a nice, gradual dimmer switch, which makes it a little tricky to learn how to use the clutch.

Choosing a motorcycle is more a visceral decision than rational IMO, so go with whatever you like. I recommend you go bike shopping (though you won't find any bargains this time of year--the coming of Spring makes it a seller's market in the extreme.) Other bikes to consider is the Suzuki GS500 and Kawasaki's 650R. Personally, I prefer the 500, but I won't bore you with my reasons.
Sit on the bikes and make sure you can straddle them comfortably with both feet on the ground. For some reason, (testosterone, I guess) I've heard some crazy stories about what salesmen have told women riders.

Good luck and let us know how it goes.
Peace!

Great bike. It's what I started on last September. Only ridden mine 3500 miles so far but no complaints so far. Found a used one witha little damage and only 2500 miles on it. Good Luck.

Welcome to the forums! The 500 is a great bike all around, beginner or not.

And yes, the colors are year by year. So depending on what color you're looking for, you may run into some problems.

Good luck!

The 500 is a tried and true machine. I think you would be very happy with it.

Welcome!

I would say that the 500 is a great beginner bike!! I am also a new rider and I have a 500. I can hold it up and ride it fine and I am only 5'3" and 105lbs. I have a lil more strangth then most my size but I think you would be fine!
