ah ok - can't measure the output of the generator with it running. so if you start it and the voltage doesn't go up then you'll know there is a problem.

if shes cold, i give mine at least half choke, and start to crank.. i advance the choke til it fire, then keep it there til the RPM raises up.. then taper the choke as the rpms raise...
on the starting thing.. kohburns got ya on he perfect track.. chances are tho, you could have a dead spot on the starter.. theres not really a way to test this.. you cant roll the bike and pop the clutch thinking it'll spin the starter.. the sprag clutch inside prevents backward rotation to the starter.. unless you're actually spinning the motor backwards, which i don't suggest!! lol..
headlight could be a few things.. check for power at the plug first with your meter.. really dig the test lead into the metal to ensure a good contact.. if theres no power there on high or low beam.. (bike has to be running) then start backtracking to the switch.. check for power here.. if theres none there, then you know its your wires leading to the switch...
if you dont want to constantly run the motor, just get it started for a few seconds, then hit the kill switch.. leave the key on.. this will keep the headlight relay on for your testing and illuminating pleasure.
for your warm-up, 3 min may not be enough time to get up to temp...otta be about 13-14 volts at 2500 RPM on that bike...
well, keep us posted bro, and welcome to KF!!!!
