Default insurance on bike

I was wondering if anyone could give me a ballpark fiigure on how much the insurance would be on my 2006 Ninja 250R. I just turned 18 and am in the process of getting my motorcycle license now.

when checking around for insurance, just be careful. Some agencies will add a surcharge if its considered a sportsbike. It was $150 additional thru Allstate. Other agencies charge by thr CC's, over 1000 is a sportsbike. so my boyfriend payed around $350/ yr for full coverage his 05 Yamaha R1

Why would anyone pay full coverage on a motorcycle? I mean unless you have a $20,000 bike. No offense but I have the 2006 KLX 250S Dual Sport and I called Geiko and I got $50,000/100,000/300,000 coverage. What that means is that if I hit someone in a crosswalk, or go through a store front window or even hit a hummer, I'm covered. The bike?, well I guess it would just be a project to fix. And what does all that liability cost me? $80.00 a year! I bought the wife a 2006 Yamaha XT 225 a couple of months ago, so I called Geiko expecting to pay another $80.00 a year, and to my surprise they said that because I am the only licensed rider in the house right now it was no charge for me to add the Yamaha to the policy. I guess they figure I can't ride two bikes at the same time. Wait it gets better. I asked them how much it would be to have my wife added to the policy, expecting that it would now be another $80.00 a year, and I was really surprised to find out that it would only be $8.00 to add her with her bike. So for $88.00 a year I have a great piece of mind and a good liability policy. I know that some of you are riding bikes that cost a lot more than my $5,000 bike, and its a personal decision, I just wanted to throw some information out there in case anyone was looking for other alternatives. Also keep in mind that I live in Washington State where motorcycle insurance isn't even required. But why take a chance. Maybe some states or banks require you to have full coverage on a bike that is being bought on payments, so if that is the case then sorry for the post, but if not maybe it might pay to call around and see what your options are. I might add that I have great medical coverage at work, so if you don't have medical insurance, then having full coverage on a bike actually might be a good idea. Later.

Insurance is weird. I called Geiko 1st, b/c I heard alot of stories just like yours. Just liability on my Ninja 250 was over $300/ 6 months. so I continued to call around and found Statefarm to be the lowest here. And as far as the full coverage, that will cover fire or natural disaster, etc. Like if the garage caved in on the bike.

Well I have to tell you if my bike is in the back of my truck and I get in an accident, it's fully covered, just like if the garage burns down or it gets stolen, that's what homeowners insurance is for.

where the hell do all of you guys live? I'm 21 with a perfect driving record and no accidents and insurance for my 250 is $1200/year, and that was the cheapest rate I could find (full coverage). I knew Michigan had higher insurance costs than other states, but I didn't think it was that much!!!
