hi new to forum,
i have an 89 gpx250r after going through setting timing checked spark but all i was getting was an orange spark.i have checked the ignition coils with the multimeter and they are ok,so that leaves the pick up coil and ecu....all i get at the moment is backfire, but if anyone has ever had this before please shed some light, many thanks

Multimeter check isn't conclusive for ignition coils. It can show a U/S coil, but the only real test is substitution. An orange spark is indicative of plug or HT side problems. Pick up coil is only a trigger - usually it either works or fails completely. ECU is a possibility. I think it's an inductive unit, not capacitive. Also, check all the grounds.

If you're getting a backfire you're getting a spark. I'd start by re-checking the ignition timing. Also check the carbs and that are no air leaks.

i replaced with a new ic igniter yesterday and now it seems to be getting a kind of blue/orange colour kind of spark.i was thinking of replacing the pick up coil with the one out of my ex 500 but really not sure if this is safe enough or what.when i checked the coils(referring to manual)they both check out according to manual specs primary 2.1-3.2 secondary 10-16k ohms.got the battery on charge last night ready for round 2 today as on the fault finding this also comes in as maybe low voltage(the battery is only a week old),thanks for replying i shall post later today

Question

wd40'd everything checked grounds, tested coils they are fine but once i connected the plug caps i got a different reading.investigated further and found the fuse inside them.tried a piece of tinfoil round them and put them back on.getting a reading of 14.4 ohms which is within the specs (10-16) ohms.spark seems to be blueish/white suppose its better than orange but can't seem to get that blue spark i need.maybe today?
