1996 kawasaki 900 zxi electric problems
Hi, I just purchased a 96 zxi last weekend, and was notified that the electronic guages were a little bugy. I understood, and didn't really think much of it. Here's what's happening. I turn on the orange power switch, and all the guages turn on and seem to function flawlessly, but after being on for roughly 5-10 minutes all the guages shut off, and the electric trim also shuts off and becomes unresponsive, it continues to run properly, but the gauges don't come back on until I shut off the power switch and turn it back on, then it happens all over again. Someone please help if you have any electrical knowledge on these things. I've checked the two fuses in the e-box, and they are fine, what should I do?

Intermittent problems are always hard to trace.
The orange switch has 2 circuits.... one for ignition, and one for all the accessories.
Look for a Red / White wire. It comes off the switch and goes to a terminal block where it branches off to many other locations. With the switch ON, this wire should read +12 vdc as compared with the battery neg post.
Maybe the switch contacts get hot due to corrossion.... or some other downstream connection gets hot from corrosion. Start tracing with your voltmeter.... starting near the switch and working downstream to any other Red/White wire.
Does the ski start switch work when nothing else does? If the start switch doen't work either, the fault lies close to the switch.... or maybe the wire from the fuse to the other side (feed side) of the switch. You can also check for a fault early in the wiring harness.... right at the fuse.... does it measure +12 vdc (with or without the switch being ON)
