Dyno Jetting a 250... Possible?
Is it a good idea? saw one on eBay and was thinking about it. And, is it a hard process? I have never worked on carbs, tried back on cars, but then I had to have my Camaro towed... Im mech savvy, but just without this part of the expierence.
Whatever you do DONT drill the slides even the instructions tell you to.
I love carbs I think theyre easy to deal with...until you start rejetting. On the 250 you wont gain much by rejetting if you are trying to get more power, what usally happens is you spend most of the summer trying to get it right.
The carbs are a huge PITA to get back on, when you rejet you may be taking the carbs off at least 3 or more times after the first install, rarely someone picks the correct needle shim and jet sizes the first or second time.
You can put KN fillter pods on which allows you to remove the airbox which is what makes the carbs hard to put back on but you have to cut the airbox apart from the battery holder part so you have a home for the battery. Also if you do go with pods you willhave to rejetso add the pods at the same time you start with the kit.
Personally the carbs are a little fussy to begin with they get gunk in the jets easily, I have a hard enough time keeping them happy stock I cant imagine trying to troubleshoot while rejetting.
The one thing that most 250s benefeit from is pulling out the idlemixture screw covers turn the screwsin all the way then back out 2 1/2 turns (there are pics in the manual)
Unfortunately you have to pull the carbs from the bike to get the covers off, unlessthe covers arealready removed, mine were but they had been assembled wrong by the PO. The are are an emissions requirement so are set really lean from the factory but cause idle issues on some bikes.

Course you wont know if it works or fouls your plugs till after you do it. Get CC in here and you will regret even thinking about changing stock settings lol.
If it makes you happy and its safe for the bike, give it a shot man.

Well, I have the K&N filter, plus the 2001 stock pipes on the 87. Maybe jetting wouldn't really have to de done. New gold filter for the fuel too, its just a thought. Best to find out from others than get f*cked doing it first. Thanks all.
