Default chain tightening?

I'm really enjoying my first bike. However being new i have to ask, what is the correct procedures for tighting the chain on a 94 ninja 250? I actually think i may have tightened it too much. So what would be the loosening procedures? How much play should be in the chain? Any help or words of wisdon would be appreciated.

The recommended chain tension will be listed in your manual. If you do not have a manual then get one. They are extremely useful if you take pride in your ride and your safety.

Example: Drive chain slack is 1.2"-1.4" for the 06 10r. Most street rides are in this general ball park.

Chain loosening is the reverse of chain tightening.

Have fun and be safe.

Also make sure you adjust it with the rear wheel on the ground. Don't adjust it on a rear stand.
