2006 Ninja QUESTIONS!!!
Hello everyone! I am new to motorcycles in general and just got a 2006 Ninja 250R on Saturday. I have already been out riding it quiet a bit, and have a few questions. First, when I am done riding, there is a strange like beeping noise coming from the gas cap area. When I open the gas tank it sounds as though pressure is being released and the noise goes away. Any ideas, worries, no worries? Second, the break in period on my bike is the first 500miles, to stay under 4000rpms. How the h*** do you do this. If I go over like 35 in 6th, there is no way I can not at least go upto about 6000rpms. Is this bad? Thanks for the help everyone!!!
Another 250 owner! Sweet!
First off dude, no worries on that sound. It's just that your gas pressure equalizing or some such. I get it on mine as well and I have heard that this is normal.
As to the second part of the break-in there is a lot of contention between following the break-in procedure set by the manufacturers or ride it like you stole it and to hell with the 4000 RPM. My personal opinion is that the manufacturers would know more about it that some guy that's just saying to hell with the break-in RPM's but that's just me. A caveat to this would be, don't fear getting out past 4000 if you need to. I ride mine on a country highway with a speedo limit of 55 MPH but keeping it under 4000 RPM is sure hard and if it looks like I'm about to get run over I just give her some more throttle. I've also read that these 250's are high-revving machines and that they can consistently keep up the high revs for long periods of time without any problems or engine damage.
I hope this helps you out somewhat. By the way, mine is in blue because it rides faster! [8D] Gear up and ride safe.
