Default New member, but an old rider

Just came home with my second 1981 Gpz 1100 I've ever owned, I almost cried the day the first one sold due to kids and life itself. This one makes me feel like I'm 21 again, almost, it's rough, a true barn find, hasn't been on the road since 1984. It's sat in a garage covered since Oct. 1984 so I'm going to have my share of work to do to bring it back to it's glory.

I'll post up some pics of it shortly, and a real good run down of known issues after I do my inspection....yup a real kneejerk purchase it was....a friend saw it on a ride, gave me the number, I called and in no timeI was southbound on the Northway toward Westport.

Wish I'd kept my Service Manual!!!!!

Mike

I love the GPz's. You need to post some pictures of that beast. Oh, and welcome.

Now that I know my pics will upload without issues......here are some more of my "new" baby.........and a couple of the old one when all it did was see the Drag Strip.

In the Barracks Parking Lot, Dyess AFB, Abilene, TX, sometime in 1983 after Imoved back onto Base....notice the 1000R in the back ground. It belonged to Clay Thomlinson, he babied it!

This has the front wheel and nose of my buddy Robert "Sluggo" Slusser's 1983 GPz1100 in the pic, prior to this he had an '82.....we all tried to "keep up" with the newest, lastest and greatest scooters.
[/IMG]

More of the "new" find with only a true couple of issues of "missing parts....the horns and the chain quard are MIA, so my search has begun....

I started going through the bike, a basic check and ringing the electrical system, fuses, ign., lights, horn, switches just to make sure no mouse went home with a belly full of wire insulation. All looked good, stuck a battery in her and everything powered up except the fuel pump, looks like it's toast. Removed it to the bench for a better look see and gave it the ole "rock it" method of reversing polarity for awhile, smacked it around with Orange Crush (MAC 40oz. Dead Blow, it's orange) a bit, tried the rock it again, gained some as it does rock when power is applied, but just for a ms......took it to my electric motor guy and the first thing he asked was if I had tried to "rock it".

So my seach began for a replacement and the time tneeded to replace fuel lines and clamps.......so far no pump in hand as none of our local Auto Parts Stores carry much stock, everything is special order with Auto Zone and Advance Auto and our once famous NAPA Auto Parts Stores (12 within 50 mile radius) are all closed and out of business as of this past July.

I'm in the process right now of searching the net for a pump, even went through ebay's listing, no luck.......I'm meeting later a bike junk yard owner from Montreal that my electric motor guy is hunting buddies with.....

More later,

Mike
