The class you are looking for is the MSF Course (Motorcycle Safety Foundation), and is offered in nearly every community. You may have to do some local research to track one down, but the msf website is a good place to start: http://www.msf-usa.org/
It covers the basic fundamentals of motorcycle riding, operation, and safety. It will not make you an expert rider at the end of the (usually) 2.5 day course, but it will give you a great starting point. Even seasoned riders who go back and take the course remember something, or learn something new.
There are some organizations that teach the course for a couple hundred bucks, and they even provide the bike. Look into that for your locale also. Stop by local bike shops and talk to the ADULTS who work there - they should get you pointed in the right direction for the class also. By adult I do mean in motorcylce years. 18-25 in motorcycle years is not adult.
Number one - BE SAFE. Wear your gear. Grow eyes in the back of your head, in your elbows, on your feet, on your ***... everywhere. Be 150% aware of *everything* going on around you. WEAR YOUR GEAR. btw - did I mention WEAR YOUR GEAR?
Welcome to the best recreational sport on the planet. Take your time, learn to ride the RIGHT way, and learn how your bike will behave. Play in the lot before going to the street.
