Default 2008 250r vs 650r

Hey im new to this forum and had a question. I am looking a getting a bike and am stuck on either an 08 250 or a 650r. I would get a 250 but would be doing longer highwaytrips and its not very curvey where i am from just slow rolling hills. i have completed the msf course as well. I would want the 650 because it would last me longer and i would have to worry about a trade in for a long time and it is better on the highway. I have been told by a few that the 650 is not a bad beginner bike. Any input or advice would be appreciated.

I would definately go for the 650R if you have the means(difference in price). You will outgrow the 250R much faster especially if you are traveling HWY Miles. I found that when I had the 250r I did not feel real good in Hwy because lack of power especially 2up. When I picked up my girl for a ride it really felt weak specially going up hills. Maybe its my weight I don't know. But I am only 5'9" 200 lbs with my girl being about 125 lbs it was too much weight for the 250R for sure.

The 250 is a much better bike to learn on. You'll learn more, learn it better, and learn it faster.

It's fine for highway trips unless you're doing regular trips of more than about 100 miles.

I'd buy a used 250 which you'll be able to sell at zero loss next year. Then you'll have the skill for a 650. This is probably not what you want to hear. That's too bad. If you're bored with a 250 it's because you're not riding it properly. The 650 has too much power for a beginner, but conversely, it encourages bad practice and lazy riding habits because of that surplus power. Get the correct habits on a smaller bike and they'll stay with you.
