Default 1979 KZ400 running away???

I have a 1979 KZ400 that I've had for about a week. It ran pretty bad initially until i cleaned the carb out then it ran ok. Then I got into tweeking the idle a little bit and one thing lead to another and now my bike runs away uncontrollably whenever i start it. The only things that I've touched was the idle speed setting, the pilot jet screws, and the throttle cable adjustment. But I've literally tried all possible carb setting combinations and nothing seemed to make a difference. As soon as it kicks over it starts reving up so quick I need to kill it after half a second. Gas just seems to be dumping into the cylinder uncontrollably.

Has anyone out there experienced this or ever heard about this and have some sort of solution for it?
