2004 KX85 issues......
Hi all, apologies for my first post being a cry for help, but just putting it out there to hopefully save me time and money.
I recently bought my daughter a 2004 KX85, as a non runner, the vendor saying that the crankshaft threads were stripped where the flywheel sits, after the guy before him had fitted a stator plate, then when reattaching the flywheel, stripped the threads. Being a time served mechanic and engineer of 30+ years, this was no issue, I have cut a new thread, refitted the flywheel, happy days.....but not, still no spark. I then check the coil, this is a Chinese ebay special, with one wire, so I assume this was the power, and the coil earthed through the body. Then, the CDi unit looks old, but it seems these are only available new genuine, and are £211, which I don't want to spend unless I am absolutely sure it is that. So, any pointers? As I say, stator and coil are new but of questionable quality, CDi unit is very old. Don't want to blanket bomb it with parts if there are easy enough checks to do, or if some things are notorious for failing. Thanks in advance, Lee.
