Default won't start

2011 klx 250s - new and running great before it sat for a couple of months waiting for parts (damaged brake disc when loading on carrier). now won't fire. fuel petcock left on reserve. battery has been on trickle charger and is good, turns over well but doesn't even sputter.

Since it sat for a few months, i'd bed the carb is plugged up. Probably idle circuit or the fixed jet that is part of the choke system. When you pull yer carb off, drill the fixed jet. It will help greatly! Could also be bad gas if you havnt drained it yet.

Where do you live, Bob?...how cold? BG68 is probably right...plugged pilot jet, as they are the first thing to get plugged as gas breaks down in the bowl. And you probably need to drill the starter jet as per many posts on the subject on this forum. Even with a plugged pilot jet, if the stater jet was pulling enough fuel, it should start on the choke. It just won't keep running or idle when the choke is turned off.

Did you try draining the old fuel out of the carb first and letting it refill (preferably with fresh fuel)?

Try to get it running on starting fluid... if it will fire on starting fluid you know its a fuel issue, whether its starter jet, plugged carb... or whatever.

45F is cold for these bikes that have cold start issues. They're extremely finicky when the starter jet is not delivering enough fuel.
