Default Winter gas mileage Sucks!

I'm just venting.......

Last year at this time i was running 125jet w/raised stock needle, hi flow snorkel, drilled stock exhaust. When the outside temp dropped into the 40's the bike got a lean condition near 3/4 throttle, so i jetted to a 128. This brought my mileage to 50 for the most part, 42mpg in the wind and cold full throttle on the freeway. This summer i installed the muzzy and k&n and got 60mpg for two months. The temp dropped to the 40's again and i got the same 3/4 throttle lean condition. And I tried swapping needles with no improvement. So now I have put in the 130 jet, removed the snorkel, and have tried both needles. I am back to getting 42-50 mpg . Great power though. Next I can't get rid of the decel popping, 2-1/2 turns out BTW, no smog gear or intake leaks, GRRRRRRRRR. As for the needles, I still like the raised stock(don't shake your head at me...), I have been running the two and I find the stock to have more pull from 4000rpm, where as the N1TC seems to start rocking at 5300rpm. Done

Frankly if our bikes got 25 mpg I would still not complain, the fun factor out weighs the mileage. I got 60 in the summer, and that's with the full Muzzy, jetting to 132 and 40 and no air box lid. YEEEEEEEEEEEHAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!

Tony, how much do those fender extensions you have on help in wet riding? I was out on Stossel Creek with wet roads yesterday and the front end was spitting up alot of wet dirty water from the front tire and I'm wondering if adding those extensions will help enough to cut it down.

I can answer that since Tony got the idea from me I added them because of the dirty sand they put on the roads around here, a little moisture and the front light and me were getting plastered. After I added them it was awesome. I had some pictures, let me see if I can find them in my photos. Basically what I used was a thin mudflap material and made cardboard templates first then cut and bolted them along with using the 3M black tape to add strength.

I used these sweet little fastening bolts, that go inside each other for a nice smooth finished look.

Nice. I'll have to try that. After seeing how much water was spitting up, I want to get something on there. Did you do the back part of the fender for a reason? Did it just make it look better, or were you trying to keep the soap costs down when washing the motor?

When I was a teenager some of the enduros as they were then called, had fender extensions, and I just copied what I remembered. I did the lower one to help keep mud off the motor, and it works.
