Will the crankcase breather mod end the oil spillage?

Your gonna send Clifsta into a panic thinking hes gotta rip his engine down or something.

Like I said Clif, I've heard doing the full mod of running the new hose does relieve the pressure, whether it does or not I cant say. I've done the drill out and it doesn't seem to do any good.
For a "known" problem, I never heard of it. Mine has a very very slight weep out of the filler, so small I never mentioned it because it isn't a concern. It might be 1 or maybe 2 ml of oil, maybe.
He also said there is oil coming out of his cam cover, again this is not normal and needs investigating. Apart from checking the seal and perhaps putting in a new gasket I don't know what would cause it.

I'm with Mav, never heard of either.
If you have oil forcing its way past the cam cover gasket and oil filler cap, IMO something is wrong, way wrong.
A tiny weep is one thing but "pouring" oil, I'd be worried.
Again IMO, its either too much oil, too much oil pressure or oil is not being distributed properly.
Doing the crank case breather is not the answer.
Fix the problem first.

Has it always done it?

Yeah its always done it. I just figure the idiots in Taiwan didn't put enough gasket maker or tighten it down properly (in reference to the cam cover) and as for the oil cap I've read it here. Its not too bad out of the oil cap, just a little bit, hard to tell what's from the cap and what's from the leaky cam cover. Who knows. If I wasn't worried about my incompetent dealer I'd take it in under warranty, but odds are they'd just screw it up somehow.

Funny! Mine's made in Thailand. Maybe that's the difference. I haven't suffered any of the problems you mentioned. Oil filler cap fits fine with no leaks and no leaks from the top end, or the bottom end come to think of it. Quality control issues in Taiwan??
Welding throughout the bike is also spot on.

Do a thread search both here and over at thumpertalk...I can remember several on it even in the short time I've been on this board. Trust me, its a known and common problem. Also remember, you guys have OZZIE bikes, they are made differently. They aren't 100% the same.

And while he mentioned his gasket leaking, thats something me mentioned is going to be taking care of when adjusting valves and has nothing to do with the main point.

Cliff, you get the bigger hose and run it up into the airbox from the top. You can get creative and cut a larger, separate hole for it if you like, I've seen that done.

Yeah its pretty common there have been threads about the cam cover leaking. Whenever the mech gets in to it he'll take care of me. IDK if its Thailand or Tawaiin, its something on the Asian mainland, not IN Japan.

So you just run a bigger hose from the crankcase to the airbox via the snorkel hole? Or just let the hose hang loose anywhere under there? And throw on a breather, right?

PS thanks for the help Jason, and everybody. Always good information thrown around in here, even if it is OT half the time

no problem, mate

Yeah run the larger hose to the airbox and put a breather on it, let the breather reside inside the airbox so it doesn't get junk sucked into it.

SUPPOSEDLY this will stop the leakage. If anything I know it will help the bike rev more free. I did that along with the smog elmination at the same time. Huge difference. Oh yeah. And take the snorkel out too.

i did the crankcase breather mod after all other mods, not expecting to notice much difference but boy was i surprised, you can actually feel the bike running more freely with the loss of pressure in there, and as for the oil cap seepage it also eliminated that problem. as for this other gasket issue, never heard of that.

I know, right? I can't possibly understand how people say they don't notice a difference. Maybe they aren't doing something right or only doing like one mod instead of doing the whole shabang. Ya gotta open it all up. My bike would never get passed 7K before. And it was a sad 7K, like as in, barely making it there. Now, it can blow 7 away.
