If the regulator/rectifier goes bad the battery will go down and the alternator may not produce enough to keep it running. It has happened to me with other bikes, mostly street bikes. A Honda Interceptor R/R went out 200 miles from town and cost $200. Same result as above. Best to make a check for voltage across the battery terminals while the bike is running. Most produce 13-14.5 v at idle.
