Default Why is my klx such a whimp

Took the KLX for a sand pit run today.. first sand pit since big bore 351.. for the first time, I was able to get up on top of the sand and sail in 4th gear like nothing... acts like a completely new bike now, in the middle of the run I heard the fmf Q4 silencer suddenly get REAL loud.. I thought I cracked the megabomb or blew the exhaust gasket.. ! I had repacked the Q4 with string packing only a week previously.. kind of moderately loose not packed real tight.. what happened? Did it catch on fire or bunch up? what the heck.. I rhode home with the loudest bike and just parked it im so frustrated.. my bikes whimpy I think it always breaks something since I started Modding it

Maybe it isn't packed tightly enough. When I repacked mine it was pretty snug putting the can back on over the packing. Like you said maybe it bunched up??

You didn't pack it right. It needs to be tight and you have to use the nickel mesh too.

Did you grease the muffler bearings when you repacked it? If not that has to be your problem.

Switching to synthetic blinker fluid cuts down on the harmonic vibrations, and therefore decreases noise levels, too.

The bike isn't wimpy if you're able to run across sand in 4th gear for the first time ever....that actually sounds pretty strong.
