Where to mount plate? where's legal??
It is aluminum, I couldn't get the 1/2" steel to bend in my press.
I would run it like you have it till you get pulled over. All they will do is probably give you a ticket and tell you to put it in the right spot. Take a pic of it and take it to your court date and they will more than likely wipe the ticket. I did that on my 05 636r ninja. My bracket broke so I put it way under the fender. A state trooper got me cause he thought I was one of those stunters that they have probs with here on the interstates in KC. They hide their plates so its harder for the cops to see them. I told him I had a new bracket coming and this was just temporary. Told me to take a pic of it when I put it in the right spot and they will wipe the ticket. I bought a bracket off ebay that actually mounts it to the rear axle. The plate was sideways now and never had a bit of trouble. Didnt even have a tag light on it. Just depends on yer states laws AND if the cop that stops you is in a good mood or not.

I broke a few plates I made when I tried to solid mount my plate - 650 vibrates the fender pretty bad.
I then got smart and made it like the old trials bikes and all - I cut a flap from a fiber reinforced piece of rubber (aka truck mud flap chunk) cut it to fit the plate and have a tab for mounting on the fender, drilled two holes in the back tip of my fender and hung it there with a couple of aluminum pan head screws - swingin' in the breeze. No problems now. Of course in Ohio there is apparently no issue with plate lighting in spite of the law that it has to be lit, because mine doesn't have any light and I've not been pulled over. Maybe I'm just lucky. But if I ever get flak I'll buy a couple LED plate light/bolts off ebay afor a few bucks nd fit them.
I like the inside the number plate mount, which faces backward filling the law. No worse than those axle mounts choppers use. If you have to, get the LED plate light/bolts off ebay.
