+1 on this post. It definitely works great on the KLX. At least on mine which is bone stock. I wonder if a cop would give a ticket if you are seen doing a wheelie on the street. Basically, a perfect launch should involve some wheelying. Big reduction in time 0 - 50 Mph. Feels like a whole second sometimes. I only let the front end come up for a split second because I am freaked out about flipping over and excess clutch wear. I would probably stay in 1st until you can keep it balanced at slower speeds. To me 2nd gear seems like an advanced riding skill but I am no expert. I Guess I have E.D. too when it comes to wheelies. Good luck

Ok, let me preface this with a don't try this at home!
So the way I was taught (I'm not great and don't hold them for long) to do a wheelie on a dirt bike was like this;
Start with the bike facing a VERY slight up hill, even like the grade of a parking lot. You are going to have to have your balance down for sure. Rev the engine up over 5000 rpm's (probably varies upon gearing, pipes, ect.) and release the clutch quite a bit quicker than normal. The bike should pretty much jump, the trick is figuring out how to mantain it. But at least this brings up the front wheel. Don't forget to slide back a little on the seat.
Also be prepared with the rear brake covered or you might end up walking right off the back of the bike only to watch it ghost ride away. I have no idea how bad this is for the clutch, engine, chain, ect.
To be honest this method kinda scares me due to it's unpredictableness, but it sure is fun when it works. It will also have the same effect all the way down to 50cc bikes, you rev it high enough and anything will come up.

Oh I'd say he would. My buddy got one while he was wheeling his death trap. It was called "stunting". I'd imagine they could call it other stuff too. Personally i wouldnt do any wheeling on the road, as I would fall...for sure.

Just start by getting used to popping the front wheel up off the ground just a little bit. Then higher and higher. Then once you get used to that, try in second gear while moving.
It WILL pop up if you basically push down on the suspension, then pull back and hit the gas as the suspension is comming back up. It will take practice to time it right, but like anything, once practiced enough, you won't haveto think about it, and next thing you won't be able to keep the wheel down.

In theory wheeling in second is easier than doing it in first gear, thats assuming the bike willget it up in second.Second is a lot smoother than the jerky first gear you are also going a little faster which will help keep the bike balanced better. You are more likely to loop the bike in first than in second.Withthat being said,my technique for wheelies is keep it in first and just start to roll slowly, the clutch is not pulled in, I then jerk the throttle quickly on and off to get the bike rocking, then slight bounce on the pegs, and as the suspension is coming up on the rebound hit full throttle and up she goes.

Thanks for all the info guys, this turned out to be a great thread!! I'll be sure to get pictures of all my scrapes bumps and bruises thanks to you're influence

Heres what I was able to do once when I revved it right up and just dumped the clutch

It lasted about a foot. But I assume doing that to the clutch isnt very good.

I too have been trying to get and keep the front wheel up..I find the terrain plays a huge roll..I prefer either the grass or have found "tundra" (kinda moss covered dirt and top 3-4 inches is soft, but still good traction) works well and having the little softness under the wheels somehow makes me believe that dumping the bike onto this would not hurt as much as gravel or pavement

I had the bike at work last nite (backshift) and it was stubborn to start at 7:00am this morning about 4 degrees celsius...brrr.....so i was revving the throttle as I was leaving work to keep it from stalling and whoops..I let the clutch slip..up the front end came and right back down in a packed parking lot while everyone was leaving work..I'm so glad i kept it on the wheels.lol

Arrr winters whorish ways are descending upon us. Its frosty in the morning where I'm working. Damn I hate winter. Especially when its not that cold and just slushy out.

They say that McLean creek ( my local riding area for mudding) is closed to bikes in october, but i think i'm going to disregard those rules.

Edit: I just found they are open until Nov 30!!! (but not open up to may 1?? dicks) Anyway that buys me a couple more months of riding!!!!! HAPPY TIMES!!!!

No "legal" riding areas around here really... Just sorta ride and hope that you don't get pulled and ticketed for being on someone's land without a "written letter of permission"....
