Angry Wheel Truing: Don't ever ever break a spoke if you can help it

I am mighty ticked. I broke a spoke on my front rim like three weeks ago thanks to an encounter with a tree. I haven't ridden since, and man am i itching for a ride. I live in alaska and if any of you have been here before you know its a bitch to get some things that you need. Not one dealer up here had a spoke or nipple for my bike. And thats not the first time they didn't have something I needed, which really gets to me. I mean come on they sell the bike but don't stock any parts for it, whats up with that. So anyway it took the dealer a week to get me a new spoke and nipple, and then i had to wait another week to even get a time slot for them to tru my rim. I took it in today and those ******* come up with a price of 165.00 for 1.5 hours of work they haven't even done yet. Man what a rip off for something that probably going to take them 30 minutes top. thats damn near half the price for a complete new front wheel. So yeah I think i have to say if you ever f up your rim/spokes or something i suggest investing in a spoke torque wrench. excel sells and adjustable one for like 110 or something. i should have gone that route but a can't stand to wait any longer. i need to ride.

What a rip off!!! Next time just order the spoke and read how to do it yourself. Power to the end user!!!

Well that was clear as mud! Here I thought wheels/spokes/truing was complicated. pppfffftttt-child's play!

I wonder if anyone makes a straight alloy or steel rim for the KLX sizes?

The KLX runs bog standard 18/21 dual purpose rims.

On my little 150 here in Borneo I changed from the steel stock rims to "Racing Boy" alloys, for about 500 ringgit, ie about $160, for both wheels.

A single spoke for $165?

Ouch.

Ahh Bigs, this thread is so old.. those guys all died of alcohol abuse years ago..

LOL!...I think federal law requires an archeological permit to dig up a post that old.
