Could it be possible they mis-packaged my needle? My kit # was 2006.002 for a '97-'07 KLX300.

I just thought of something else. It's never happened to me, and I hear varying reports of what the symptoms are when it does occur. If you leave out the spacer(s) above the needle when you reinstall the needle, exactly what does the engine do? I know it's been done, but I don't think I've ever heard a precise report of how the engine runs. I would think it would be very inconsistent running...idle changing quite a bit...bogging noticeably...etc. But that's only speculation on my part. Loco's bike sounds like it's running fairly consistently.

Loco, your description of your DJ needle sounds like the 300 needle we have, but stuff does happen.

Isn't the kit 2206.002 ?

I don't know what a 2006.002 would be for.

TNC I had three spacers in my kit I used all of them above the c-clip and below spring holder. With out them the needle wouldn't per-say have preload against the slide and it would move up and down. BigSky KLX you are 100% correct I made a type-o it's a 2206.002 thanks for clarifying that . Thanks for all the info guys it looks like I will go with foam on the filter.
