Fabricated a tail platform out of a piece of aluminum that a shop friend gave me. The bolts run all the way through the subframe fender mounts and proved to be very solid. My old KLR bag that i used to run had the straps come unstitched when i dropped her in the mud so i decided to go for a permanent mount for my tail bag. After looking at bags online that i either didnt look or couldn't afford I decided to check out walmart sporting goods section for some inspiration. While there I ran across a "Field-line Tactical" Range Bag that looks like it would fit perfectly on my rack and had several pockets. So I sandwiched the bottom of the bag between my rack and another piece of 1/8th inch aluminum, i can lift the back tire off the ground by the bag now. The bag cost me $27 and i couldnt be more happy with the quality compared to the money I spent. Funnily enough my buddy slipped in a Wolfman logo into the id holder and I cant resist leaving it on the bike. I cant quickly remove the bag, but i never remember riding without my KLR bag and it was larger and didnt fit well. Then I picked up a SOG accessory bag from wally world on clearance for $5 and decided i would turn it into a fender bag. My local hardware shop had a "Gutter Strap Kit" for $6 and with a little doing it turned out to be pretty secure once it was cinched down. Still testing to see if I need to notch my fender or throw a bolt through the clips but so far it has carried a tube and some irons just fine. So for around $45 including hardware, I am extremely pleased with the outcome. Oh, I also wrapped my handlebar cross bar with some paracord so I can have around 12 foot of cordage on me at all times.
