Default What do you bring to prevent Flat??

Hi there!

First flat for me yesterday night! I was lucky because somebody else living near where I made my flat has the same bike, so we exchanged the front wheel to get my self home.

My question is What do you bring to prevent any flat?

Tube
Manual bike pump
3 tire levers

I just purchased everything I listed above... but I think the tire levers are so heivy... Are you bring theses?

thanks
Eric

For off-road riding in nasty, rocky terrain. . . . install 4mm thick Monster Tubes and keep your tires inflated to near-maximum inflation pressure to prevent pinch-flats. For street use, I'd try Slime. I don't ride much on the streets, so I'm just guessing about the Slime. Nothing will prevent a flat from a slashed tire caused by a shard of glass or piece of metal! I, too, carry 3 tire levers, a patch kit and bicycle air pump.

Heavy duty tubes are very good for enabling low tyre pressure for off road use without risking too many flats.
But, I still carry tyre irons, pump and a spare front tube.
The front can be used in the rear to get you out of a jam.

What Neil said, and one of these and a patch kit. Saves your fingers some grief.
It's called a bead buddy. This one's from Motion Pro.

Like was mentioned, if you don't want a pinch or valve stem rip flat then do like I have done for 12,000 miles. I run max pressure all the time...street, trail, fire roads. Makes no difference. Its worked for me so far. I've never even had a low tire. I also have been running the Kenda Heavy Duty Tubes since my first tire change nearly 3 years ago.

i dont run max, but about 22-25 psi. i dont notice much diffrence airing them down for trails so i just dont. only one flat so far, and the 908f dunlop saw so stiff it took 2 days and a trip on the freeway to notice. i carry 2 tire irons, 21 incher, and once i order some more stuff im getting patches just incase.

Those of you that pack a spare tube, if you just carry one tube which size do you choose? A front tube would work temporarily on the rear of the bike, correct?

I carry a spare front tube, 2 tire irons, some liquid soap and two air cannisters. I also carry a small electric pump on the KLR 650. Have not used them in 12000 miles, been lucky I guess. Truth is, I am not sure that I could change a rear tire in the bush if I tried. Better practice this at home.

Question on this bead buddy, how does it work? and what is the slot for?

I heard that this slime stuff is not worth carrying. Has anybody actually used it with some success?
