Question What is the coolant flow direction on the KLX250/300?

My assumption is that the water pump is a puller style and thus draws cooler liquid from the right radiator and pushes it into the head. Then the hot coolant exits on the left side of the head and enters the left radiator.
Does that sound right?

I did a search not only here but also in Google and could not come up with an answer.

Who can set me straight?
TIA

Yes, that is correct, remember the coolant is it's at it's hottest point when it leaves the cylinder head. That's why there is a thermostat which opens when the coolant gets hot.

Right. But since the KLX300 does not have a thermostat. I wanted to verify that there wasn't anything non-standard on the model. Most folks here have the 250 which came with a thermostat.
Thanks for the confirmation. 👍

How does the 300 work without a thermostat, that seems really odd. I think I would put one in, especially considering how cold blooded the KLX is.

I read here that the 300 model did not come with a thermostat,
When I checked the parts diagram, I did not find a t-stat for my 1999 model.

Default Coolant

I have very limited mechanical skills, so I am here. I have a 2024 KLX 300 here on St. Croix, it was shipped from Miami. I need to add coolant but am not sure what to use. I went to NAPA today only to find that there are many different types of coolant, any suggestions on what I should use?

Thank you!

Mike
