Default What Air Filter?

Hey all,

I have an '09.

What air filter is the best to use? I have heard both Uni and K&N. What is the K&N number? Does the K&N use a filter treatment like a foam filter? If so, how do you clean it, or is it a one time use filter. What filter treatments do you all use?

Tried the search function, but really didn't feel like ploughing through 500 results just to read about oil filters, crankcase filters, air filter box, etc.

Thanks,
Craig

K&N uses a paper (like) filter in a metal screen mesh. cleaned with an included filter spray cleaner. then once dry coated with included filter oil. maybe 30 minutes to clean, 20 of them being sitting to dry. some people say K&N's arent good in dusty places. i do know they rock in the airflow department.

Ive used k@n in the nastiest places you can imagine and never had a problem. I started using them back about 1980.

I appreciate the answers guys, but what K&N filter do you use? Is there a filter number?

Thanks,
Craig

At the top of the main page there was an ad for K&N filters so I clicked on it but I could only find a listing for an 07, checked Kawi #'s and they are different don't know what the heck they changed.
07#11013-1260......K&N#KA 1287
09#11013-0030......K&N...no listing.
Maybe they haven't got them out yet.

K&N filters are easier to clean and install, No latex gloves needed, or plastic bag to oil the foamie. Anyone remember greenie weenies?

Dusty conditions use a filter skin for longer service between cleanings

Don't use &^%$ing K & N in a dirt bike unless you like replacing valves often, use a good quality OILED filter like UNI filter

Ditto what Maverick said. A K&N flows the most air... because it filters the least air. It lets too much dirt in for something like a motorcycle. If you value your top end, use an oiled filter like a UNI or a Twin Air. If you're a poser and just ride the streets, then spring for the K&N.
