Quite obvious, totally failed cam chain tensioner. I'm pretty sure some others will back that up.

I make manual tensioners and the KLX250 is like #1 on the list of ones that need replaced. That one needs replaced.

Feel free to message or email me. Lower cost than OEM and will last for ever. installation and adjustment is reasonably simple if not overthought.

Whatever you do, don't buy one on ebay. I charge a higher price on ebay due to the fees. None of the others listed there fit the liquid cooled 250/300. The sellers assume they do, but they fit the 79-80 air cooled model and possibly the KLX650, not the 94-14 KLX250/300. Get a hold of me by email or PM here or on my site. If you pay by PayPal you have all the protection you would get from ebay, but I've never burned anyone yet.

What Mark said ^

Search around here and you'll find many examples of failed stock automatic cam chain tensioners and happy customers of Mark's product. I'm one.

Half hour replacement time to go manual. It isn't instantly catastrophic, but if not taken care of, can result in excess wear and damage, worst case scenario if it gets loose enough to jump timing it can destroy a head, piston and valves.

If you're talking next Friday, it should. I'm hoping to ship tomorrow, definitely Monday at the latest.
