In NZ a metal road is a graded heavy gravel road! Don't ask me why tho, its made of bits of rock not metal! I'm a transplanted Pom in NZ so I'm still learning all those little Kiwi-isms!

And if you happen to speak with a Kiwi take care on how you interpret what they say - they like to cross-pronounce their vowels; so "e" sounds like "i" and vice versa! For example SEX gets pronounced like SIX, BED gets pronounced like BID; u get the idea! Some Kiwis have this more pronounced than others so it can get confusing if you're not careful!

Yup, sorry, we call gravel metal here.. don't ask me why...

car destroying coarse metal track: (adj) a road that is known to damage cars and other vehicles due to the large pieces of rock purposely placed on the road under the guise of "traction assistance".
