Default Vapor??

Since my original cluster is busted to high hell, I figure I will go ahead and replace it with this so called Vapor you guys have been talking about. How hard is this thing to install? How do you mount it? About what is the total cost after everything is said and done? Thanks again for all your help.

Check-out the above link. The complete kit-with mounting hardware-is only $99.00. From what other people have written, it sounds like the instructions are pretty straight forward. I haven't heard of any issues with the install. Nobrakes waseven able to get the odometer to match the stock one by rotating a magnet next to the sensor with an electric motor...if you want to go that far.

I was thinking about getting one because my friggin D-tracker doesn't come with a tachometer[:@]

The Vapor is definitely nice. I ended up putting my stock instrument cluster back on recently - I kind've missed it after a while. My only real beef with the stock cluster was that the speedometer was off about 10% or more. I think I might have a fix for that, though. More to follow if it works out. If my solution works, it is VERY simple and won't damage the meter if you are careful.

I now need to remount my Vapor, though.

So your going to have the vapor and the cluster on there? Why do you want both, any advantage. Nostalgic reasons lol?

The Vapor also displays your coolant temperature as well as the outside air temperature and its speedometer is a lot more accurate and I suspect its RPM reading is more accurate as well. But if you want to make me an offer on it, I may be convinced to part with it. The unit itself is fine, but I suspect you'd still need to purchace the sensor kit. I can check on the price of that if you are interested.

I am sure that there is nothing wrong with it, but what is the reason that you want to part with the vapor and go with the factory cluster? I might be inclined to buy it.

My .02 cents is the Vapor is a really good investment. NoBrakes already coverd that it tracks actual temps and the MPH is programmed into the computer by tire size, so it is way more accurate. It has a few other programable inputs too such as high rev limit and shift points that are indicated by an LED. Here is a link to my install a while back.

Kinda curious too as to why you put your stock clusterback on toNoBrakes. Not to steal a sale but I'll be more than happy to sell you my old stock cluster incabiker. It shows 1700miles on it when I changed it out.

Well, unless I sell it, I still plan to reinstall the Vapor, I'm not tossing it away or anything. I guess I just like the polished look and clean design of the stock cluster and indicator lights. I had mine off for about six months and after a while I grew to miss it. So I put it back on. If Incabiker wants to buy your cluster, that's fine - like I said, I'm a bit ambivalent about the Vapor at the moment. I really like the air and coolant temp readings it gives, but beyond that, the stock cluster is fine with the exception of inaccurate MPH. But I think I might have a fix for that, I just need a little time to test it. I'll post if that works out, probably in a few days.
