I'm using Mobile One for bikes, and after a couple thousand miles it will start to use oil. I change it, and wont' use any for a couple more thousand miles. So when the oil drops to half glass...it gets changed. As for the valves, mine make noticeable noise under 2500rpm. If they got quiet, I would think they're too tight.
